As spa owners we must do whatever we can to prevent injuries from happening. Children are naturally attracted to water, therefore to help prevent accidents and injury you must keep children away from the spa in the absents of adult supervision. Following are a few safety tips to keep in mind to help prevent accidents to children and other guests while using your spa. 1. Never leave anyone alone out of eyesight in or near a spa. 2. Always completely remove the cover before using your spa. This will prevent you losing sight of a person in need of help under the cover. 3. Keep toys, particularly bikes and tricycles away from in-ground or in-deck spas. A child playing in the area with these toys may accidentally fall into the water. 4. Make sure all doors or gates leading to the spa area are closed and locked at all times. 5. When not using the spa ensure that the locking safety hardcover in installed properly and locked. 6. Do not use any electrical equipment within 10 feet of the spa. 7. Never use your spa if any of the suction covers are missing or broken to avoid body entrapment. 8. Have emergency numbers posted next to your phone. 9. The use of drugs and/or alcohol is not recommended while using a hot tub or spa. 10. Pregnant woman should consult their physician before using a hot tub or spa. 11. People on medication and/or having an adverse medical history, or suffering from obesity, heart disease, low or high blood pressure, or diabetes should consult a physician before using a hot tub or spa. 12. Test your GFCI weekly. 13. Practice safe entry/exit to and from the spa. Always hold the spa edge or grad bar when entering or exiting the spa. Back to top ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Test your Water Periodically during Hot Tub Parties We remind everyone that when entertaining in your hot tub, the water should be tested and chemically balanced every two hours. This will prevent increasing germ and bacteria levels. Back to top ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Beware of Bacteria Buildup in empty Hot Tub Just a reminder that when your hot tub is left empty for an extended period, bacteria could manifest in the pipes, pump(s), fittings, suctions and drains, etc. When re-activating the hot tub after an extended shutdown, it is advisable to properly clean the filter, and either shock the spa and allow at least 1 hour for the chemicals to kill the bacteria before using. Even better, fill the spa, shock the water, then drain and refill the spa and chemically balance before using the hot tub. Please remember that chlorine and bromine is not as effective when the pH is higher than 8.0. Back to top ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Wood Finish Most new Hydropool/Serenity/Viking Spas are pre-stained with one (1) coat of Sikkens Cetol 1. We suggest that you consider applying a coat of Cetol 23. The strong water repelling and breathing characteristics of the Cetol 1 & Cetol 23 system effectively penetrates and protects exterior wood surfaces, like your spa cabinet, and enhances their natural beauty. Back to top ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hard Cover Protection Most spa owners never consider hardcover care a priority. However, if you consider the weather conditions a spa cover must endure, its importance to heat retention and its safety importance you realize that a well maintained spa cover is important. Spa covers get damaged with regular removal. Therefore, we suggest you consider the addition of a coverlifter to your spa. This will help eliminate the potential of cuts and tears appearing in your spa cover which cause the cover to hold water making it very heavy and difficult to remove. Not only can this water retention make the cover very heavy but it can cause the foam to break thus absorbing water which reduces the covers “R” value which will shorten its life expectancy. We also suggest that you regularly treat your spa cover with a vinyl care product to help reduce the damaging effects of the sun, rain and snow have on your cover. With proper care your cover will last years. Back to top ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Gazebos If you are ordering a spa with a gazebo or think you may add one in the future, please have your dealer order your spa "Gazebo Ready" this will ensure that your spa cabinet has the correct support structure to withstand the added load of the gazebo. Back to top ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Accessories Don’t forget there are many accessories available to help make your spa experience more enjoyable. Ever wondered what to do with that spa cover after you take it off the spa??? Well now your worries are over. Visit your local Hydropool dealer and see the coverlifters available to help make cover removal easier and to prolong the life of your cover. Also check out the easy to use filter cleaning canisters. These will help you in the cleaning of your filter which will help keep your spa clean and operating properly. Two great accessories to help make our spa use and maintenance fast, easy and enjoyable. Go to your local dealer to find out more. Back to top ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Chemical Corner Maintaining a proper pH level of 7.4 to 7.6 PPM in your spa is very important. An improper pH level will cause skin irritation, damage heater elements and make water chemistry difficult. If you are unsure of proper pH levels and how to control it, contact your local dealer and discuss water chemistry. Knowledge in this area will definitely prolong the life of your spa and equipment. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
